As a retiring (and proud) Edmonton Public Schools trustee, I believe your vote for a trustee on October 21 to be the most important one of all—whether you have children attending school or not.

Why? Because the quality of the education our children receive today impacts the ability, passion and imagination of tomorrow’s adult citizens. Our future depends on the thoughtful, principled, forward-thinking, evidence-based decisions made by the trustees you elect.

Above all, select a trustee who is passionate about public education. As a society we can’t afford to take public education for granted. The learning and teaching in our schools needs to be excellent in every way.

[…]

Our city, province and country are strongest when we have an education system in which all students are welcomed—regardless of income, race, culture, faith, gender or ability. If a candidate does not genuinely believe in the power of public education, then he or she is not worthy of your vote.

So please give our trustee candidates the attention they richly deserve. Become informed.

On October 21, vote for a trustee of character who will listen carefully and make decisions with an open mind. Vote for a trustee who is passionate about public education.

Your vote for a trustee is the most important vote of all. ❚
